Outdoor Play In The Month Of May

Our girls love the outdoors. If our girly duo could be outside all of the time, they most certainly would, running up and down the hills to the neighbor's yard; collecting every type of leaf; squealing in the delight of all that open space. With some unseasonable May weather in the mountains of Virginia, we are eagerly looking forward to summer days of warm sunshine, heat on our tanned skin, and lots of time playing in the yard from morning to night.

A big problem we've had during past summers are mosquitoes, especially since they thrive in warm, wet environments making summer prime mosquito season. This usually deters us from a whole lot of time outdoors because we are a household of mosquito snacks. They just adore us, while we despise them. It can be a big turn off to head outdoors when you know you're going to end up with one too many mosquito bites. And considering a mosquito's bite can transmit dangerous diseases like Zika virus, chikungunya virus, West Nile, and more, we end up retreating indoors, waving our white flag in defeat. This year we took measures to help ensure a summer of outdoor enjoyment while keeping those pesky mosquitoes at bay.

At the start of this week, our local licensed pest professional from Orkin came out to treat our yard for mosquitoes. He was able to create a customized plan of treatment for our yard after assessing our outdoor space. I can't tell you the level of joy I feel over taking back our summer and reducing the threat of these unwanted bugs. The process was so simple, and the appointment easy to schedule. Not to mention, during this time of social distancing, Orkin can treat your yard without ever entering your home!

If you have ever pondered the idea of treating your yard for mosquitoes, now is the time to do it, because Orkin is partnering with the American Red Cross. For every person who signs up for mosquito service with the code REDCROSS, via this link, Orkin will donate $25 to the American Red Cross, up to $100,000 (valid through May 31, 2020). Orkin's support enables the American Red Cross' disaster workforce to respond to people in need all over the United States.
